When the Family Dollar store located at 727 Virginia Street West—the primary grocery store for many food insecure residents on Charleston’s West Side—closed due to a devastating fire in early 2021, Manna Meal and its partner organizations established a mobile food pantry to ensure community residents would be able to access food.
